Tinman - Oct 30 2009
Key Features in this month’s Tinman:
- First XI in 5-7 years time predictions.
- Tinman Awards Predictions
- Turf 1 to umm Turf 5
First XI 2014/15 (give or take)
Stuart Squires – likely to be still gracing us with his presence and will be holding a top order position in the ones. Candidate for captaincy
Travis Campbell – Question marks depending on if another million-dollar offer comes through but I think he will still be at Mordialloc. Might be a first change bowler by then haha.
Vinny Muruhesapillai – in his mid 20s by this time and will be a star in the middle order.
Toby Grayling – Will be important to the team’s batting order and will be our first choice wicketkeeper.
Leon Kennedy – Will be still a star until he doesn’t want to play. Will still be vital to the top order. Candidate for captaincy.
Tim Richardson – Another star batsman that would still be valuable to the first XI in 5 years time. Another candidate for captaincy.
Matt Newman – Will be a seasoned firsts player now and should add depth to the batting line-up
Cameron Tomkinson – A batsman that has improved so much over the last 2 years at Mordialloc and see him taking a spot in the middle order and offering some strength to the bowling.
Jakob Fidler – Will definitely be taking the new ball with his left arm swing and by then his fielding would be much better and his batting will have improved.
Niranjen Kumar – Likely to return to Mordialloc after his stint with Dandenong and will slot in with his handy bowling and lower order batting. Candidate for captaincy.
Veroshan Sripragasan – Could be the X-Factor with both ball and bat. Still needs development.

Beckett/Squires Sprint-off: Dave Beckett by a good distance. We all know that last year Beckett was suffering from hamstring tightness and plus he didn’t like running in the dark, so this year it will be in the daytime, where there is nowhere to hide.
Make sure you pop down to the club on Cup Day for the Barrier Run between Squires and Beckett. See you all there!
The Tinman was wondering around the rooms of the Mordialloc Sporting Club on a Friday afternoon when he bumped into a few people in the Bob Martello Room and started chewing the fat (no we weren’t eating a delicious steak) about the team set-up at Mordialloc and there were some valuable points. The jump up to Turf 1 at the end of last season was all good and showed the strength of the club but the thing that worries a few is that our 2nd XI is wondering around 4 grades deeper than our top side making it difficult for players to go up and down as there is such a massive jump in standards. It will be hard to judge just how good a player is really going when playing in Turf 5 before picking them in Turf 1. Cause really, you would think that the majority of the Turf 5 player across the league wouldn’t be good enough for Turf 1 but could still take quite a lot of wickets and score plenty of runs.
But the problem is, how faraway are the 2nds from winning a flag? Our 2nd grade sides haven’t had much success over the past few years so it might be a while since this could ever be fixed. Just a problem that was raised by some characters in the Bob Martello Room.
Mordialloc Football Club have overcame some very dark years to make finals last year and win one of the two, but with some murmurings around the ground suggesting they need some class out of the backline, rumours are very hot that coach Aaron Martello is looking at out of contracted player Stuart Squires to bolster the backline. Squires was probably on his way to his first best and fairest when injury took him down as he broke his leg, but now he is fitter than Brett Ernst now so it looks like he has a real future ahead of him. Watch this space, as other potential players are being looked at by the Mordialloc match-day committee to get them to a flag they desperately need.
In smaller news but bright for the future, Lance Draper and other important members of the committee presented to the media that James ‘Jim’ Baird has been confirmed as the Under 16s Assistant Coach. This is seen a massive coup as many clubs were looking to acquire his services. Lance Draper wasn’t available for comment late last night.
Did anyone noticed how many players that have played 1st Grade cricket at Mordialloc over the last 2-3 years were playing in D Grade cricket last round?
There isn’t much romance going on at the moment but there is a bit of love story happening at the club with our International Pro playing Romeo to a local blonde. But there is some talk that Romeo is going as well as Nobel Stylish but we will just have to watch this space.
For now, I’m the Tinman and I’m back at training finally so I’m very sorry to all the bowlers who I tend to belt around the ground and to the batsman who get tricked by my sharp-turning offies.
Good Luck to Bruce Dingle who flew out to India last night to replace Tim Paine in the Australian side.
Cheers,
The Tinman
