JUNIOR BLAST

JUNIOR BLASTERS

Junior Blaster is the name for Cricket Australia's entry level program. Junior Blaster plays a major role in achieving our vision to be Australia's favourite sport by ensuring the long term health of cricket within clubs and schools.

The program is a fun introduction to the game for young boys and girls. It provides children with an enjoyable and safe learning environment where they can build their confidence, develop new skills and play games.

Appropriate ages are from 4 to 7 years old. Older or more advanced children should register for Master Blaster (ages 7 to 9)

From ages nine onwards, we encourage children with the right skill level to move into our U/12 teams. The Mordialloc Cricket Club's Junior Blaster program is run by experienced accredited coach, ensuring that your children will receive sound advice and coaching. The program teaches children the most important lesson of all which is to LOVE THE GAME!

Once a child learns to love the game of cricket they will be a cricketer for life and will experience all the benefits the game provides: healthy lifestyle, team work, respect, sportsmanship, leadership, confidence, grace in victory, fun and excitement, self esteem, lifelong friendships, dignity in defeat and skill improvement.

Fees and Registration:

Fees for the Junior Blast program are $99.00.

Session Times:

Sessions are held on Friday evenings from 6pm to 7pm at Ben Kavanagh Reserve, McDonald Street, Mordialloc. We will be running Junior Blast on the following dates this season. Please note these are tentative and will be confirmed closer to the season commencement.

  • Start: 02/12/2022

  • End: 03/03/2023

  • Break: 18/12/2022 to 02/02/2023

Program:

The session runs for one hour. Each session has a warm up activity, followed by basic ball skills. We then break the children into groups: experienced children will perform some more advanced skill sessions and newer children will perform skill sessions to introduce the concept of batting, bowling and fielding.  We will assess the skill level of the child at the start of the season. A parent or guardian should remain at the ground during the session or arrange for another adult to be responsible for your child(ren) in the event of injury or a premature conclusion to the session.

Volunteers:

We need volunteers. No previous cricket experience is necessary.  A program such as this needs parents to volunteer and help run the various groups. Mordialloc Cricket Club will supply experienced co-ordinators to run the overall session but we need your help to manage the groups during the sessions. It’s also a great way for parents to have fun with your kids.

Clothing:
All children must wear a hat, sunscreen and appropriate shoes (runners).

Weather:

At all times, Mordialloc Cricket Club will conduct the Junior Blaster sessions in a safe environment. The program is held outdoors so weather will (and does) affect us. Mordialloc Cricket Club reserves the right to cancel a session if the ground is unsafe for any reason. The following weather cancellation policies apply:

  • Wet weather: if it is pouring on the day and the ground is likely to be saturated. It is up to parent’s discretion on intermittent rainy days.

  • Hot weather: if the temperature reaches the temperature outlined by Cricket Australia's hot weather policy, we will cancel the session.
