Vale Ray McGinty

Ray McGinty was an opening batsman and left arm slow bowler in our premiership team 1962.

Ray was the local barber and played with Mordi for about 10 years. A very popular member of our club who was like our Facebook page before social media, the barber shop was the hub of local news.

Ray moved out of town but always kept in touch with his old teammates in later years.

He played approximately 100 games, scored over 1500 runs and captured 60 wickets.

Ray's Achievements at Mordialloc:

1st XI - 1961/62 - 6/34, 5/27 & 5/43

            1962/63 – 52, 6/26 incl Hat Trick & 5/29, Runners up

Sheila Hunter - photo.PNG

Sheila’s involvement with Mordi CC commenced in 1974/75 when her twin sons, Les (deceased) & Colin began their cricket careers in the U14s.

In 76/77 the U16s won the Premiership with Les as Captain and Colin also a Premiership player.

With the boys finishing their Junior Careers, season 77/78 saw Sheila join the Committee where she became a tireless worker over the next 15 seasons.

It was this season when the MCC decided to run Bingo, with Sheila being a very active member of all things Bingo.

Bingo lasted for 15 seasons and was an excellent Revenue raiser for the Club with Subs being relaxed for a couple of seasons at one stage.

Along with Bingo, Sheila was a very proactive Committee person over the next 15 years.

She, along with a few other Ladies would contribute to the thirsty and hungry cricketers on Thursday evenings after training & Saturdays for most of the day at Ben Kav for the 1’s & 2’s. Cooking on both these nights along with preparing afternoon teas and cleaning up after the messy cricketers was a job on its own.

Long days in the canteen, especially on Saturdays.

She was also Vice President for a season and Social Secretary for numerous seasons along with being on Social Committees which ran 4 or 5 Social events per season.

A very worthy and proud Life Member.
